Free | Hands-On Training | FAA Part 107 Exam Preparation
The Beginner Drone Pilot Training Program, offered in partnership with the UAS Center at San Bernardino International Airport (SBD), is a hands-on learning experience for high school students interested in drone technology and aviation-related careers.
Through a combination of classroom instruction and real-world flight training, students will learn to safely operate drones, gain practical flight experience, and prepare for the FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Exam—the industry-standard certification for commercial drone pilots.
Program Highlights
✔️ No cost to students — the first FAA Part 107 exam is included. If a student does not pass the exam, the cost of any retake is the responsibility of the parent/guardian

FAA Part 107 Exam Preparation
Learn FAA regulations, airspace rules, and safety procedures needed to prepare for the Remote Pilot Certification Exam.
Ground School Instruction
Build foundational knowledge in flight planning, weather awareness, and airspace classifications.
Flight Line Training
Operate drones in real-world environments under expert supervision.
Industry Applications
Explore career pathways in aerial photography, logistics, robotics, data collection, and emerging drone technologies.
Program Eligibility & Requirements
Student Eligibility
Must be an incoming junior or senior at a San Bernardino County high school for the 2026-2027 school year.
Required Documentation
- A parent/guardian is required to complete the pre-registration application.
- As part of the pre-registration process, the parent/guardian must obtain and upload a School Counselor Verification Letter. The letter must confirm that the student will be an incoming junior or senior for the 2026–2027 school year. Please note that school transcripts or class schedules will not be accepted in place of this letter. The Counselor Verification Letter must be submitted by Friday, May 1, 2026, at 4:00 PM to confirm eligibility. Applications missing this document after the deadline will not be considered.
Mandatory Orientation
Attendance by both the student and a parent/guardian is required.

Students are not officially registered unless both the student and parent/guardian attend the orientation.
✈️ FAA Part 107 Exam Eligibility (Federal Requirement)
- Student must be at least 16 years old.
- Student must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.
- Student must be physically and mentally capable of safely operating an unmanned aircraft system (UAS).
- Student must provide to the testing center an acceptable form of identification, per the FAA, to take the exam.

Families are responsible for transportation to and from the training locations.
📝 How to Apply (Parent/Guardian Required)
Step 1: Confirm Eligibility – Review all requirements and obtain the counselor verification letter.
Step 2: Complete Pre-Registration – Parent/guardian must submit the application and upload the required verification letter.
Step 3: Google Account Required – A Google (Gmail) account is required to access the application. Progress is saved; you may return later to complete or upload documents.

Application Deadline: Friday, May 1, 2026 at 4:00 PM
- The Counselor Verification Letter must be submitted by Friday, May 1, 2026, at 4:00 PM to confirm eligibility; applications missing this document after the deadline will not be considered.
- Applications will be reviewed in the order received. Parents/guardians will be notified once eligibility has been verified and space availability has been confirmed.
- All parents/guardians will receive final notification no later than Friday, May 8, 2026, indicating whether the student has met all eligibility requirements and been accepted or if space is no longer available.
- Submission of an application does not guarantee enrollment. Space is limited.
